ACTIVITIES in Sjodalen and Jotunheimen
Besseggen
Besseggen is Norway’s most popular mountain hike, and more then 60 000 tourists experience this spectacular hike every year. The view can take your breath away, as the mighty peaks of Jotunheimen encircles the green waters of Gjende, just 800 meters down on the one side of the edge, while on the other side, the dark blue Bessvatnet 400 meters below. This hike usually takes between 6-8 hours. It can be walked both ways, but most choose to take the boat from Gjendesheim to Memerubu and walk back. Besseggen is located about 20 kilometers from our camp site, and there are two large parking lots nearby. We can also provide transport to Besseggen if needed.
If you want to take the boat from Gjendesheim to Memurubu, you need to order your ticket beforehand at www.gjende.no/rutetider
National Geographic has named Besseggen as one of the world’s top 19 most trilling hikes.
