Sjodalen Hyttetun and Camping AS is idyllically situated in the edge of the woods in Sjodalen, just off the national tourist road Valdresflye (Fv51). Here we are in the bottom of the walley, 850 meters above sea level.
Here we have affordable cabins with self-catering in magnificent surroundings in the midst between Valdresflye and Jotunheimen. Our camp site is located close to the river Sjoa, of many ranked as one of the best rafting rivers in the world.
It is only 20 kilometers to Besseggen and Gjende in direction south. To the north, the alpine ski center at Lemonsjøen is just 16 kilometers away.
The hosts, Torill and Erik, took over the place in 2015 and have run it since then. Both had their background from the finance industry when they decided to start up in a field completely new to them. Torill quit her job to concentrate fully on the new business, while Erik commutes back and forth from Bergen, where he still has his job in an insurance company.
Cabins and camping
We have ten cabins with bathroom with shower / toilet and two bedrooms suitable for 4-5 people. There is also two of a simpler standard. Finally we have 3 caravans for rent.
In the camping area we have places for campers and caravans, as well as sites for tents. There are 20 power outlets. These can also be rented for use in tents.
Popular activities
During the summer season the hike over Besseggen is the most popular. But there is also a number of other hiking opportunities, both to the many 2000 meter peaks in the area, but also less demanding trips. For example Hulderstigen which bends along the river Sjoa. In Sjoa you can do kayaking, fishing or swimming, in addition to rafting.
Sjodalen is an eldorado for those who like to ride a bike. Here there is an infinity of possibilities on exciting gravel and forest roads, and also off road in the terrain for those who wish.
During the wintertime, dogsledding has become our most popular thing to do. We now have aquired sleds on wheels and can offer this activity almost the whole year round.
For skiers there are more than 80 kilometers of groomed ski tracks in the area. Several of them are passing through the camp site, and makes our café a natural place to stop for a waffle and something to drink.
The Gamme
In the high seasons we open our big Gamme in the evenings and invite our guests to gather around the fireplace. Here we also have a pub with a nice selection of hot and cold beverages.
